TEMAT: Bytom or Czech republic?

Bytom or Czech republic? 2014/10/22 19:32 #150654

Hi to everyone,
im new user and reader of Bytomski.pl portal. My name's Rado and i live in Ostrava (CZ). My polish written language is not so good, so i will be writing in english. If it will be problem, just say, i try to write in polish. That's for the start.

What is my situation?
As i wrote berfore i live in Ostrava, but i have a girlfriend from Bytom, so i spent a lot of time in your city. It looks very good, i feel good there, the main square is nice, i know about broken old buildings, but for me, for foreigner, looks very nice. The only one problem is that nobody is carying about them :) but it can change ... As the time flows and as i spent a lot of time in Bytom, there is one question, i think quite important question,

If you would choose where to live - Bytom or Ostrava (or near surrounding), what do you choose and why?
Has anybody there some experience with living in Czech and in Poland? Is there in Bytom some important fact to know to decide where to live?

Hi Rado,
I've been to Ostrava few times, but I don't know the city well. I've never been there longer than couple of hours. Last time in 2009 I was there for Zlatá Tretra. Great meeting, I wish we had an event like this in Poland. Still I would prefer Bytom, just because I was born here and I live here for almost 30 years. It feels like home to me and that's hard to change ;)

Thanks for your opinion. I know that my question is not so good. Im interested in fact, for example, if there in Bytom is a good work, how much i can earn, how much is the air polluted in winter... I have a lot of questions, i know that my main (where to live) is very general..

Unemployment rate is about 20% but there are many cities around Bytom so You can also find a good job there (for example in Katowice or Gliwice, about 15-20 km). The air is not that much polluted, it's somewhere in the middle in Poland:

Kraków - 64 μg/m3 (highest pollution)
Rybnik - 54 μg/m3
Nowy Sącz - 51 μg/m3
Zabrze - 45 μg/m3
Katowice - 42 μg/m3
Gliwice - 40 μg/m3
Dąbrowa Górnicza - 40 μg/m3
Bielsko-Biała - 36 μg/m3
Bytom - 35 μg/m3
Wrocław - 35 μg/m3
Jelenia Góra - 35 μg/m3
Częstochowa - 35 μg/m3
...
Gdańsk - 18 μg/m3 (lowest)

I don't know how well You understand polish, but we have a whole topic about moving to Bytom and what are the good/bad parts of the city:

Yes, i know this topic, i read this. But there's one big different, there is someone who wants to move from Gliwice to Bytom. It's not so big decision like a country change. That's why i established this topic.

I mean for example, if i would like to have a baby, i can stay at home with baby only for a year. In Czech we can decide how long. We can stay 1-4 years. Another fact is for example, that better to treat is by private doctors. Because if you go to public hospital and you need an operation, you can wait for a couple of years...

I know thats no fact about Bytom but whole Poland. But as i wrote i have a girlfriend in Bytom, so im thinking and comparing. Another question - how much is the medium sallary? Do you think its quite easy to find a good job? Is there some possibility to find a job where i can speak czech, english and in time polish?

Can anyone send me some links for works?

There is a lot of possibilities of work for people who speak Czech.

Eg:
gazetapraca.pl/ogl/1938911/konsultant+ze...kiego+i+angielskiego

However, you have higher culture of job offering in Czech Rep. Czech offers in Czech Rep. usually contain company address, salary, contact tel. no., the name of person you should contact in case of interest, etc.
Polish offers (see the example above) usually don't even contain the name of company wanting you to hire. let alone the rest of details.

This town is part of the big conurbation, where live 2 milion people. Distance between Bytom and Katowice is 16 kilometers, so it isn't much. The journey takes 20 minutes by car, 30 minutes by bus or 40 minutes by tram. If you do not find work here, probably you'll get it in the nearby town like Katowice or Gliwice. For comparison in Katowice unemployment rate is about 5,2%...

Hi, I understand your worries. Its not easy to leave your country...hometown, friends, family, etc.
Bytom isn't beautiful city, but I love it ;) Maybe because its my hometown ;) You asked about work- it depends on what you are doing. Im looking for a new job right now and I can see every day many announcements with english and czech languages. Most of all its office work, working with clients, call centers, financial services etc. and I think you can get a good money BUT...rather in Katowice ;) Katowice its a big city with many good companies, and the pay very well. In Bytom hmm..I think it worse to find job, but many many people are driving to Katowice every day and its not a problem for them ;)
Bytom has some very nice places, and I think you will also find your favourite :) We have many forests, parks, main square, and many shopping centers around, like Agora ;) And everything it close.
But first you have to decide and answer to yourself how do you feel in Bytom? Because if you are not sure about this city sooner or later you are going to miss Ostrava, which is very similar to our cities btw ;) :) And its only 1h driving and you can see your family :) I lived in couple of cities- one of them I loved, other I hated...thats why you have to feel good here :)
I wish you good luck!

Rozumiem, że musisz się zdecydować, czy przeprowadzić się do dziewczyny do Bytomia czy dziewczyna do Ciebie do Ostravy? Cóż, no to pewnie każde z Was będzie za swoim miastem i nic w tym dziwnego...
